"The ICESat-2 Education and Public Outreach (EPO) Project Implementation Plan (PIP) is currently being developed during Phase B of the ICESat-2 Mission."
The development of the ICESat-2 EPO PIP is guided by the following:
Overarching Objective: To educate students, educators, and the public on the scientific attributes and societal benefits of the ICESat-2 Mission.
A major objective of the ICESat-2 EPO project implementation plan is to support the goals and objectives outlined by the 2006 NASA Strategic Plan (NP--2006-02-423-HQ), with guidance and themes provided by the NASA Education Communication Strategy Brochure (NP-2008-02-496-HQ).
The ICESat-2 mission E/PO implementation plan, in direct collaboration with other NASA Earth-observing missions, strives to focus its impact on NASA's identified target audience outcomes in education and outreach. Each current and new project will not target each and every audience, but rather focus on one or two specific audiences.
Outcome 1: Higher Education
Outcome 2: Elementary and Secondary Education
Outcome 3: Informal Education
Outcome 4: Outreach
Each ICESat-2 EPO concept, project, program, and leveraged partner adheres to one or more of the above NASA Education Outcomes.
